Kjm Partners with Harvard

The KJM Foundation has continued its mission of empowering the youth through its dedicated educational support programs by making a sizeable donation to Kwameta Basic School in Ghana’s Central Region. Located in the Komenda district of the Central Region, the Kwameta village is home to the school, which since its establishment has struggled with a lack of basic resources that are essential for its operation. Aside from the Kwameta area, the school currently serves five other communities in the surrounding environs, making the situation all the more desperate.

As part of its core mandate to support socio-economic development across all areas of the country, KJM identified the Kwameta Basic school as a beneficiary of their CSR efforts, looking in particular to address their lack of educational material such as school desks, school books and other essential materials that would be required to aid the teaching and learning process. Coupled with this, the needs assessment further revealed that, while the Kwameta community survives primarily on farming activities for their economic sustainability, the lack of access to quality education represents their biggest challenge from a social perspective.

In carrying out this particular project, the KJM Foundation collaborated with the Harvard Business School, based in Boston, Massachusetts, who made a sizeable contribution towards the success of the initiative. Culminating on the 26th of August, 2019, the project concluded with a donation of materials worth GHc 3000.00 being made to the school. The donation was gratefully received by the Headmaster of the school, as well as teaching and administrative staff, and they were also joined by the Chief of Kwameta and his council of elders. The pupils, who were also present at the presentation, were overjoyed by the contribution and couldn’t contain their excitement at the sight of the new pencils, erasers, school bags and books amongst others.

Overall, the project represented another resounding success for the KJM Foundation, and despite the significant constraints, including the poor state of the roads surrounding the Kwameta village, as well as the considerable language barrier; the initial objectives that were set were all well met. Special thanks must also be given to the Harvard Business School, whose assistance in carrying out the project cannot be understated. We hope that this will signal the beginning of further collaborations in the future, and more importantly, pave the way towards even more significant developmental projects for communities in similar situations.
